Estimate cubic yards of concrete needed with bag counts and cost estimate.
A concrete calculator estimates the volume of concrete needed for slabs, footings, and columns, plus bag counts and cost estimates.
| Thickness | 40 lb | 60 lb | 80 lb |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 inches | 3.6 sq ft | 5.4 sq ft | 7.2 sq ft |
| 6 inches | 2.4 sq ft | 3.6 sq ft | 4.8 sq ft |
| 8 inches | 1.8 sq ft | 2.7 sq ft | 3.6 sq ft |
| 12 inches | 1.2 sq ft | 1.8 sq ft | 2.4 sq ft |
Formula
Volume (cu yd) = (Length × Width × Depth) ÷ 27Length = project length in feet
Width = project width in feet
Depth = thickness in feet (inches ÷ 12)
Worked Example
10 × 10 ft slab, 4 inches thick
Did you know? The United States produces approximately 500 million cubic yards of ready-mix concrete annually, making it the most widely used man-made material in the world (source: Portland Cement Association).
