Calculate your ideal body weight using 4 scientific formulas: Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi. Compare results and find your healthy weight range.
Ideal Body Weight (IBW) is a clinically estimated weight based on height, gender, and established medical formulas. It serves as a reference point for drug dosing, nutritional planning, and health goal-setting — not a strict target.
Minimum height: 152 cm (5 feet)
Most commonly used in clinical settings for drug dosing calculations
Modified Devine formula, often considered more accurate
Tends to give higher ideal weights than other formulas
One of the earliest IBW formulas, widely used in nutrition
Formula
Devine (men): IBW = 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60)IBW = Ideal Body Weight in kilograms
Women (Devine) = IBW = 45.5 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60)
Height = total height in inches (minimum 60 inches / 5 feet)
Worked Example
Example: Male, 5'10" (70 inches) — Devine formula
Did you know? The Devine formula (1974) was originally developed to estimate drug dosing — not fitness targets. It is still the most common formula used in pharmacology for weight-based medication calculations worldwide.
