Calculate your body fat percentage using the US Navy method with waist, neck, and hip measurements. See fat mass, lean mass, and body composition.
Body fat percentage is the proportion of your total body weight that is composed of fat tissue. It is a more accurate indicator of fitness and health risk than weight alone.
Measure below the Adam's apple
Measure at navel level
Formula
BF% (men) = 495 ÷ (1.0324 − 0.19077 × log₁₀(waist−neck) + 0.15456 × log₁₀(height)) − 450BF% = estimated body fat percentage
waist, neck = waist and neck circumference in cm
height = height in cm
Women = adds hip circumference: log₁₀(waist + hip − neck)
Worked Example
Example: Male, 175 cm tall, 85 cm waist, 38 cm neck
Did you know? The US Navy body fat formula was developed in the 1980s for military fitness assessments. Studies show it is accurate within 3–4 percentage points compared to DEXA scanning for most non-obese adults.
