Test typing speed in WPM with accuracy tracking and multiple difficulty levels.
A typing speed test measures how fast and accurately you type by timing your input against a sample text and calculating words per minute (WPM) and accuracy percentage.
| Level | WPM | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | 20–30 | Hunt and peck |
| Average | 40–50 | Casual typist |
| Proficient | 60–80 | Touch typist |
| Fast | 80–100 | Skilled typist |
| Expert | 100+ | Professional level |
Formula
Net WPM = (Characters Typed / 5) / Minutes − (Errors / Minutes)Characters Typed = Total number of keystrokes entered
5 = Standard word length (characters per word)
Errors = Characters that do not match the source text
Worked Example
250 characters typed in 1 minute, 5 errors
Did you know? The world record for typing speed is 216 WPM, set by Stella Pajunas in 1946 on an IBM electric typewriter. On modern keyboards, the record is 212 WPM by Sean Wrona (2010).
